I called HOA board member Fred McMahan because I’d been driving around The Enclave for a few months and hadn’t seen any wild turkeys running through. I’d heard tell they eat ticks. I’m in favor of that. Fred is a lifetime resident of our coves and serves as board historian and voice of reason.
“They’re around,” Fred said. “They just move to different paths. They’ll be back.” And they were, after Thanksgiving, right on cue.
Wild turkeys are much misunderstood, including about that tick rumor. They eat them – voraciously – but also carry them. I have so much to learn yet.
